NNN History
Founding and development
The NNN was established in 2009 in Accra, Ghana, out of an NGDO coordination group for onchocerciasis control. Initial members represented the onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis and trachoma coalitions. The organisation expanded as soil-transmitted helminthiasis and schistosomiasis coalitions joined, followed by leprosy coalition members in 2013, and later organisations addressing conditions from Guinea worm to dengue.
Strategic evolution
The NNN has evolved from a disease-centred organisation to one that addresses NTDs via cross-cutting groups, forging partnerships across multiple sectors to ensure equity and inclusion. The BEST Framework guides this comprehensive approach, complementing the WHO NTD Roadmap and commitments to Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs.
